Description:
Wychwood NNR is the largest continuous area of ancient broadleaved woodland in Oxfordshire. The site also includes a series of marl lakes of special value for their invertebrate populations.
The woodland habitat includes stands of oak and ash as well as beech plantation. Plants of particular interest in the ground flora include meadow saffron, herb paris, early purple orchid and adder's-tongue fern.
The reserve is part of the Cornbury Park Estate. A public right of way runs through the wood but entry to other parts of the estate is by permission only. By tradition, the site is open to the public on Palm Sunday. For details email the Estate office, or telephone 01608 811276.
