Whether you’re a casual walker or are looking for something more challenging, you’ll find a route to suit you in Hungerford and its surrounding countryside.

Town Walks

The historic centre of Hungerford is delightfully compact, and most visitors will take about two hours to follow the suggested route. For those with more time available, there are suggestions at several points in the guide of diversions to see other points of interest.

Freeman’s Marsh Walk

2 Miles (about 1 hour). Starting on Hungerford’s high street this route takes you along the Kennet and Avon Canal tow path out to Freeman’s Marsh. The Walk is detailed in the Hungerford Tourist Guide available from many outlets throughout the town.

Hungerford Common & Canal path

2 Miles (less than 1 hour). Starting on Hungerford’s high street this route takes you along the Kennet and Avon Canal tow path and return by Hungerford Common. The Walk is detailed in the Hungerford Tourist Guide available from many outlets throughout the town.

Kennet and Avon Canal

The historic canal links the Thames and the Bristol Channel, weaving through spectacular scenery on its way from Reading to Bath and Bristol. A natural grass towpath and secluded aspect makes this an ideal place for the country-lover.
