An exciting new ticket, the Downlander, allows you to explore the South Downs by train and bus, making as many Southern train and bus journeys as you like. All for only £10.
For £10 (£2.50 for children) you can travel to and from any location in the South Downs area by Southern train services or available bus services.
- The ticket covers Southern stations (including Brighton, Southampton, Portsmouth, Bognor Regis, Haywards Heath, Chichester, Eastbourne, Hastings, Rye and Ashford) and unlimited bus travel within the Downs area.
For £12 (£2.50) you can travel across the whole Southern network and South Downs area with Southern train services and available bus services.
- This ticket covers all other Southern stations (including Crawley, Horsham, Redhill, East Croydon and London Victoria) and unlimited bus travel within the Downs area.
The magnificent stretch of coastline between Seaford and Eastbourne and inland to the A27 is designated and protected as a ‘Heritage Coast’, one of the finest examples of unprotected chalk cliffs in Britain which includes the famous Beachy Head and Seven Sisters cliffs. Inland, the rolling landscape of the South Downs and the meanders of the Cuckmere Valley offer beautiful views and delightful walks.
Charleston Farmhouse was home to the unconventional household of Bloomsbury artists Venessa Bell and Duncan Grant from 1916 who transformed the house with Italian fresco paintings whilst the garden, with its mosaics and gravel pathways, is reminiscent of southern Europe.
The award-winning Drusillas Zoo is ideal for families, featuring a wide variety of animals in naturalistic environments. Next door is the English Wine Centre, stocking an extensive range of English Wine, some of which is produced from vineyards in the surrounding countryside.
