Long distance footpaths cross East Hampshire coming from north, south, east and west. In Alton itself there are also local walks, circular walks and self-guided literary walks.
- The long distance walks include Hanger’s Way that will take you from Alton to Petersfield and St. Swithun’s Way, passing through Alton on its way from Winchester to Farnham.
- Walks in the general area suitable for wheelchair users include the Liss Riverside Railway Walk, See Wheel Chair Walks around Petersfield.
- Three circular walks in and around Alton.
- Six self-guided literary walks in East Hampshire trace the footsteps of famous East Hampshire writers and poets including Jane Austen, Gilbert White, Edward Thomas, Flora Thompson, William Cobbett, W.H.Hudson.
