Tonbridge to Penshurst Cycle Track to open on 27th July 2005

This exciting new cycle route that links Tonbridge Castle and Penshurst Place will be officially opened at Tonbridge Castle on 27th July at 10.30am.

It offers a wonderful, almost entirely traffic-free, 5 mile path from the heart of Tonbridge alongside the River Medway, out into the countryside as far as the glorious buildings and gardens of Penshurst Place. Cyclists are invited to attend the opening and all those cycling the route to Penshurst Place will be admitted free to the Gardens on the day as well as receiving a voucher giving free access to Tonbridge Castle at a later date. Penshurst Place has always welcomed cyclists and will continue to offer a £1 discount off the entry price to the House and Grounds for visitors arriving on a bicycle. The route has been completed as a result of a partnership between Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council and Penshurst Place, with support from Sevenoaks District Council, the European Union, Kent County Council and Sustrans, the National Cycling Charity. A new leaflet with a map and directions will shortly be available at all Tourist Information Centres, Council Offices, Tonbridge Castle and Penshurst Place. For further details please contact Penshurst Place on 01892 870307.
