Description:

Newhaven and Seaford Sailing Club was formed in 1952 by a group of enthusiasts who sailed from Newhaven and later from the beach near the old Buckle Inn at Seaford (location). Later the Club obtained the rights to sail on Piddinghoe Pond some 5 miles away. Subsequently the present clubhouse on the beach was built and the freehold to the Pond acquired.

The Club has an average membership of about 450. The Club regularly has 6 fleets: Laser 1s, Dart 18s, Squibs, Toppers, Optimists and a handicap fleet. Racing takes place on Sundays throughout the year (on the sea in Summer and on the Pond during the Winter months); a series is also run on Wednesday evenings during the Summer months. The Club hosts open meetings during the year, has a regatta during August each year and holds a cadet week (open).

Dinghy and keelboat sailing, power-boating and wind surfing are also taught in the Club, which is a RYA Recognised Teaching Centre. While the majority of the courses are held on Piddinghoe Pond some are arranged at the sea so that a tidal endorsement can be issued. Courses are run at: RYA levels 1 to 4 in dinghy sailing, RYA Levels 1 and 2, Safety Boat and Advanced power-boating and windsurfing at levels 1 to 5. The Club can also arrange instructor courses for both dinghy sailing and power-boating.
