| Route Description | Starting at Brockhill Country Park, this route can be explored in either direction by simply following the brown waymarking discs along the walk. The route starts and finishes at the visitor's centre at the country park. The park is situated on what was once part of the estate of Brockhill. The recorded history of the park dates back to Norman times. After following the route through the park you will eventually leave the site to continue the walk using Kent's public right of way network. Which ever way the route is walked, you will pass a host of interesting features. Approximately half of the walk follows the Royal Military Canal where at West Hythe you will pass West Hythe Church. This ruined church was first built in the late 11th century and enlarged in the 13th century. Further west the route will take you past Studfall Castle and Lympne Castle. Studfall Castle was built to guard the Roman port of Lemanis, which was at the southern end of Stone Street, the Roman road that led straight to Durovernum, which we now call Canterbury. | ||||||
