Route Description The route follows bridleways along the valley of the River Medina out of Newport, the Island's largest town. The walk then gently climbs up and over Appuldurcombe, Stenbury and Week Downs, giving wonderful views to the north and south- with the sea visible in all directions from Week Down. The path then descends into Ventnor Botanic Gardens with its unique Mediterrannean micro-climate and interesting plant collections.
Terrain Details Easy walking for the first half of the route, before rising and falling over the Downs, steeply in places.
Access Info / Public Transport The start is 10 minutes walk from Newport Bus Station. The end point is also on a bus route - contact Southern Vectis Buses on 01983 532373 for information.
Services / Amenities The walk starts on the edge of Newport which is a busy town with many shops, cafes & pubs. A good half way point is Godshill, just a few hundred yards off the trail, which has many tea gardens, pubs and cafes. Ventnor Botanic Gardens itself has a cafe.
