Route Description This is one of 8 waymarked "Inland Trails" on the Isle of Wight. The walk starts at the high point of the National Trust Car Park at Mottistone Down and then gradually descends along a track, past a large quarry till it meets the road. You then begin to climb again reaching the TV transmitter on Chillerton Down. From here you skirt across farmland to the south of Godshill, eventually passing the bottom of Gat Cliff and reaching the imposing Freemantle Gate on the edge of the Appuldurcombe Estate. From here the path descends into Wroxall and out again, then skirts St Martins Down before dropping into Shanklin Old Village.
Terrain Details Though this is a long walk, the terrain is fairly easy with a couple of short, steep descents and climbs along the length of the trail.
