High Weald Landscape Trail - Harrison's Rocks

Route Overview This walk uses part of the High Weald Landscape Trail with views of the Medway Valley and typical High Weald countryside of oast houses and hop fields. Spectacular sandstone outcrops are present at Harrison's Rocks.

Route Description Leave Eridge station and turn right then right again along Forge Road, then left on the track to 'Bullfinches' and Motts Farm. Walk through the woodland, turning right across a footbridge and stile onto the Sussex Border Path. Continue uphill past a farm and oast house and follow the waymarks across a track and downhill with a wood on your left. Cross a footbridge in the field corner and walk uphill to the road. Turn right and then left on a path uphill to a rough track. Turn right on the track and follow waymarks for a Forest Way Circular Walk, through Sherlocks Farm, across a large field, containing a number of World War II pillboxes, and under the railway, joining the High Weald Landscape Trail. Turn left at the road and walk uphill past houses on the outskirts of Groombridge. Just before the school turn right and follow the High Weald Walk signs for 11/2 miles, through Ayttons Wood and parallel to the railway with Harrison's Rocks visible on the left. At Birchden Forge, leave the High Weald Landscape Trail by turning right just before the oast houses. Cross the railway with care via the level crossing to Forge Road. Turn left and continue for over a mile back to the station.

Access Info / Public Transport Trains: hourly services from Uckfield and London to Eridge. Buses: services between Crowborough and Tunbridge Wells stop at or near Eridge station. The 729 links Tunbridge Wells and Brighton with an hourly service.
Services / Amenities Huntsman Pub at Eridge Station, small caf? at Aytton's Wood car park, Harrison's Rocks (open summer, weekends in winter).
